On Friday, August 19th, Assistant Fire Marshall and Captain Joe Mullens from the Rockingham County Fire Department will engage us in learning about Fire Safety Resources. Did you know that many deaths/injuries in older adults are due to missing smoke/fire alarms or dead batteries? Captain Mullens will also discuss ways to make your home accessible for fire and safety rescue units, the dangers of clutter and hoarding as well as devices that can be used under your stove hood to automatically extinguish a cooktop fire.
Join us from 9:00 – 10:30am at Sunnyside Retirement Community (The Highlands) 3935 Sunnyside Drive Harrisonburg, Virginia. Visitors are welcome – look for the signs!
The meeting will also feature a “member spotlight” presentation by Jeannette Suter from Home Instead Senior Care.
You’ll be the winner of our contest this month if you’re able to identify what percentage of seniors would prefer to remain at home according to a recent AARP study. The prize will be donated by Jim Maust of Venture Builders, Inc.
